April 17th 2008
Alas, our trip to Newcastle has been called off this week as Tom has damaged his hand. Sorry any Northeastern folk - we'll be back I'm sure...
April 14th 2008
Thank you to everyone who came to part one of our single launch. We certainly had a good time, and were pleased with the turnout. Apologies to those people who actually thought we were having a raffle at the start of our set. It was basically a cover for technical difficulties. Big thank you's go to Jim for a lighting and stage set-up worthy of Queen, and Jeff at the Shakey for his consistant patience and help all the way through. We played 2 new things on Saturday - one is tentatively titled 'Bloodbath' and the other one has no name yet.
Chances are, you'll be the first to know when we know. Si
April 1st 2008
Its after midday so alas this isn't prankworthy. Our single launch in Nottingham has been postponed from this week as poor old Darren from Kill Chaos has got ill. Hopefully our Sheffield leg should still be on, but hey, sometimes people get ill. Except me of course.
I forgot to mention below that our single is available to buy now from the Field Records shop. So if you like vinyl, you'll be in heaven. If you don't, its a nice thing to own, but the track should be on iTunes soonish...-Si

Local people, you may see weird cd's of ours floating around the city in strange places. There's 50 of em.

Wow. A busy week last week what with Fuzz and things. You can catch a sneaky glimpse of last Thursday's show on the ol' YouTube. This ain't the final mix of footage, but if you missed out, its a bronze medal. I promise there was cheering, however we didn't record it on this version.
In other news, we got our first copies of our single, Freeview

and we also now grace the pages of the Field Records website, where the single will be available from, at the end of the month.
Its even been reviewed super early by Rockfood and we're dead happy about not being 'lazy susans'. Look out for more exciting Actionier stuff happening in the next couple of months...
Feb 18th 2008
Ahhh. A month of rest. Actionier have switched HQ's and we're preparing for what could be a busy couple o' months. I could write something to inform you using all of my intelligence and wit, but it would be far from rivalling Iain's blog on the EVIL MYSPACE BLOG. Check it out.
Jan 30th 2008
We've hit this month with the ground running. Some great gigs in both Sheff and the big smoke, and the single is 'in production' - exciting. A good response from the Freeview video has inspired us to start thinking of our next video idea. Any suggestions welcome. Tomorrow is Leeds, if you are in Leeds, come along, and if you know anyone in Leeds, tell them too. Together we can beat the traffic... Si
Jan 10th 2008
Our video for 'Freeview' is now available on here... Check the Music Page to have a gander if you're free. We like it.Si
Jan 2nd 2008
Merry New Year! Our first shows of 2008 have been slightly sorted - see the Gigs Page for more details. Look out for a couple of cheeky new recordings appearing soon, as well as a new video. Keep popping back... Si

The AP article is lovely and pretty...

They say...
"THE STORY SO FAR: Following his departure from Sheffield's 65daysofstatic, vocalist and and guitarist Iain Armstrong
circulated an ad for his next project with the J. Foxian headline "When the DeLorean hits 88mph!" and soon recruited
guitarist Simon Linskill, drummer Sam Dougherty and bassist Tom Doyle for his kinetic, math-rock "dream band.
Doyle says, "there must be something in the beer this way because we had a mass of people just as excited as about the music as we were before we'd played a gig".
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: The Mathlete EP was picked up by BBC Radio 1 (which Doyle reminds is "The biggest freaking
radio station this side of the pond") and contains a melodic cross-section of Dillinger-esque time signature abuse and Fugazi
post-sing-alongs. "Why write music to nod your head to when you can write music to save the world to?" Poses Doyle. "Listen
with open ears and pretend you're a superhero".

A new month and stained skin. Today sees the publication of December's AP magazine who are kind enough to feature us in their unsigned section. We had a marvellous week recording our single, plus a few other 'spare' tracks that may well crop up somewhere. All recorded by Chris at Remedy Recordings.
Last night was our Halloween show with Rolo Tomassi. I still have a red face and hands from the zombie schoolgirl outfits. A fun time was had - here's what we played:
Racer
Mathlete
Mystery One
Tao of Kimmy Yeah
Pause
The Fal
Kick Colt
Freeview
Philosophy Part Two
At least, I think that's right. I lost the setlist in all the gore. Simon

Howdy again. There's nothing nicer in these autumnal months of the year to gather twigs, be all rosy cheeked and joyous, and also have your music remixed. Our music page now has a remix of our song Racer on it, courtesy of the brilliant 65daysofstatic. Its a bustling techno classic that we're most pleased with. If you're not familiar with the original, if you head over to Last.Fm you should be able to find the original on there. I will probably put it in this place too once I can be arsed, and when I have more frequent ftp access. Enjoy, and if for some reason you haven't listened to 65 - do. Si

Hello readers. Its Simon here. Iain has a taste for the Blog nowadays so I felt the website was being a little neglected, so here's some news. After the traditional summer hiatus of few gigs we already have an interesting autum coming up, with our first jaunts outside the UK (as a band that is). Another video is on its way, plus we will be recording new stuff for our split single that's going to come out on Field Records at some point in the future. Don't know when yet. We've added another band to our Spectaculier III at the Grapes - Colombo's Mac from Stratford-Upon-Avon, as they are most wonderful, and right up your street if you like shouty yet subtle Reuben-esque rock. I sure do.
I'm gonna save more news for someone else to write as this isn't amazingly witty...

Here's what we played last night:
Theme For A Superfriend
Kick Colt
Almeida
Mathlete
Mystery One
Philosophy Pt.2

*UPDATE* Not doing the 12th of July now, but there is still going to be a Team Tall gig on the 26th at the Casbah. And you should come to Heart Yeah's album launch on the 10th. Wickedy Wah.
Jul 3rd
A weekend of rain, camping and motorbikes. Some exciting news though - in September we will be playing host to Derry's Fighting With Wire and our other friends from across the water LaFaro. No confirmed venue yet, but it will be an awesome show for sure.
In other news, we have been asked to do a DJ set next week - we are not yet sure what we're going to play but its safe to say that we have agreed to keep it interesting (but not in the Hard House mash-up kinda way), and also next week is Heartyeah's album launch, which we are playing at with Calf By Calf and some other Sheffy goodness. I'm going to get Sam to write the next news as we have not heard about his appalling cooking fo some time now. Peace out.Si
May 18th
Some pretty pics from the Youthmovies gig are available on the Corporation website here. Twas a good gig... Si

Simon writes...Wow... this hasn't been updated in a while - we really should pull our socks up. But we have an excuse, its been pretty busy recently. If any of you have read Iain's blog on the 'other place' (Rupert Murdoch's sinister Fox Kid's death-cult known also as Myspace) you'll know that we played our biggest show yet, supporting Yourcodenameis: Milo at the Fuzz Club.
Yesterday we had the great news that everyone's favourite Welshman, Huw Stephens played our song Racer on his show, plus the good ol' Beeb are putting Mathlete on their Unsigned Podcast this friday.
Our bank holiday weekend was not quite as relaxing as most as we were tied up and shot (by cameras) for our latest video. Shot over 2 days and 2 locations, it will look sa-weet I reckon... Here's some of what I saw from the sidelines with my shitty camera...
April 1st
Simon writes...The wonderful Steve Cape will be shooting our next video on May 6th. Strangley, it won't be for a song from the Mathlete EP but I can promise something interesting...
March 25th
Simon writes...2 'new' old tracks available on the Music page. They're exactly a year old and are from our first ever show. Its nice to have an MP3 clearout once in a while...

Actionier have been busy!
The EP is completed in its unmastered form, and might I add, sounds amazing! Many thanks to Chris RemedyRecs for all the works he's put in!
However, the journey to the completed ep was far from easy; blood, sweat and tears have gone into the final product. Each CD contains at least 1% genuine Actionier DNA, thats a lot of double helix's!
Any suggestions for cover art would be much appreciated. If enough drawings are sent in, we may have an 'Art Attack' style display, for which Neil Buchanan will be drafted in. Neil will pick his favourite pictures and say a few words: "Ooh, look at this...Lyndsey, aged 11 from Goldthorpe has sent in this underwater collage. Look at the way she's used crepe paper to give it a 3D effect. Super" etc. etc.
Neil will then recreate the best design on a vast scale, perhaps on a football pitch, using everyday items.
So...GET DRAWING!!
The Cricketer's gig last night, organised by Team Tall, was super!
Petals was ACE. (This is grammatically correct as Petals is an individual. Check him out!)
Towers (all the way from Philly) were awesome.
Good luck to them for the rest of their tour. Hopefully they made it to Belfast!
Over the last couple of weeks, Actionier have learned a great deal and grown as people. (Simon is now 7 feet). Here are a few pearls of wisdom:
• Don't kick people's pint glasses when they put them down outside. As good an idea as this may seem initially, IT ISN'T!
• Do eat at Kebab Delight on London Road and eat in. The meals are substantial to say the least and service is excellent!
• Pink is the new yellow
• We may never be able to fill the boots left by John Williams in the form of the Jurassic Park theme tune.

An interesting show at the Raynor Lounge last night... Here's the set-list:
Theme For a Superfriend

Some good news from the spiritual 'home' venue of actionier that is Corporation, we got an ace slot supporting Youthmovies on the 16th of May. This will be good. Nice... Simon.
February 13th
Our self-run event was a big success, and we wish to thank everyone who came along, including Standard Issue from Stoke and Married to the Sea from Liverpool. We look forward to seeing you again in your respective home towns. The gig was also visited by one of o2's 'Undiscovered Scouts'. The poor thing, sat in his tent, all alone. An undiscovered scout, feeling the solitude of Baden-Powell's movement... Si

2007 dudes. Happy New Year! Our first event of the new year was a house party which went down a treat. We are also available for Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs and Wakes. We played alongside the marvellous Calvinball, who will support us on the 8th of Feb at the Red House in Sheffield (a gig we're putting on ourselves), with Married to the Sea from Liverpool and Standard Issue from Stoke-upon-Trent. Those of you in Sheffield we strongly urge to attend - fun is guaranteed, hell, its even underwritten by Lloyds of London.
December 12th
Our EP has now been recorded and is now in the process of being mixed. A big thankyou to Chris of RemedyRecs for the recording and engineering us, and also the fine folks who helped out on the final sunday. Feel proud people, proud...
And of course, Seasons Greetings, Merry Winterval and Happy Yuletide to all our readers.
November 18th
A trip to Manc in a poisonous van but a fine time was had, and nice to be back playing the ol' Corp. Come on people, we need you for the all-dayer tomorrow!
The Set-lists from The Roadhouse and Corp were pretty similar... unfortunately I lost them but we premiered new song 'Kick Colt'. (8th and 9th November)
October 12th
Actionier have shirts, and ethical ones at that too. Nothing set up to sell them from here yet but come on peeps, there's a fair few gigs where they'll be available. Many thanks to Jay of Parasite for the printing. Check out his stuff - its awesome...

Thanks to Team Tall for having us yesterday - it was a fun if not slightly chaotic day, so hats off Jay and Stocky of Team Tall for organising all the bands for that saturday. Time left us with a shorter set but the atmospher was great.
In other news, you may hear actionier noise coming from the Foundry at Sheffield Uni all this week in the afternoons, as we are helping with the sound training there...

Well, after the summer hiatus, we're finally ready to rock again, with City Screen in York tomorrow, and a Sheffield date on the 21st, with 2 excellent Sheff bands, Stop that Astronaut and the Venkman Heist, former Avalon buddies. And of course, lets not forget the Team Tall fest on the 9th of September which will be a blast - its rare you get such a collection of awesome bands for just a fiver...
July 13th
The next crop of shows have suddenly sprung up, predominantly in Sheffield at the moment, but one in York in September. We're also in the process of getting some merch style stuff sorted out, because living isn't worthwhile without actionier merch.
June 19th
It's all been a bit quiet on here for a while. Well, if all goes well, we should be shooting another video in a couple of weeks or so, but of course, its more exciting if we don't reveal which song we're doing it for... Over the summer we hope to record an EP, but at this stage the details aren't finalised. Keep checking back for more info...
May 14th
The track 'Tao of Kimmy Yeah' is now available on our myspace page. There are some more tracks in the pipeline and some will probably make it to the music page on this site. Keep checking back, it will be here!
May 7th
The Corporation was a fun gig - its nice to play so close to home and Fighting With Wire are a most excellent band.
The video to Philosophy Pt.2 is available to download from our music page. We're working on getting it streamed so its a bit easier but its there now...
April 21st
Thanks to everyone who saw us at Stockton. It was nice to get a pleasant North East welcome, and thanks to Stolen Sun and the Oxfam Glamour Models.
Other stuff, we've recently recorded a loada stuff again, but there may be a slight hiatus before its on here or the myspace. And yes, the video is still on its way...."
March 28th
On Saturday 25th March, members of Sepultura stole cupcakes from Actionier's rehearsal room, as it was being used as a dressing room for their gig, and the following day the band were left to deal with the sad site of an empty box of the Fabulous Baking Boys Assorted Cupcakes (worth ?1). If anyone manages to see Sepultura around anywhere, please ask about our cakes..."
March 22nd
Thanks for everyone who came to see us play at D'n'R on the 20th - it was a good night and we all enjoyed it thoroughly, and special thanks to Steel Reasoning and Severed Nerve.
The next stop is a headline show at the Georgian Theatre in Stockton-on -Tees...
February 13th
There’s some new dates published on our gigs page now, in Stockton-On-Tees, Sheffield and Chesterfield. The Sheffield gig will be with our good friends, Lucifer Matches. Check them out here. The Chesterfield gig is an all-dayer at the Green Room – make sure you wear your metal-core hats….
February 5th
After a 15 hour day of shooting, we have finally shot the video for ‘Philosophy Part Two’. It was filmed at the Lantern Theatre, Sheffield, and should be available on this site in a couple of weeks. Massive thanks to everyone who was involved on the day, and we hope you look forward to seeing it as much as we do. Expect lions, tigers, pandas and bears, and some mild nudity. Keep checking back for more info…
February 2nd
Another track, ‘Tone Kismit’ is available on the Remedy Recs myspace page at www.myspace.com/remedyrecs
January 30th
We now have three tracks on our Myspace from our January recording, ‘Philsophy Part Two’, ‘Her Bribe’ and ‘Fear Of Numbers’. They’re all available to download so enjoy!
January 1st
Happy New Year everyone! We’re hoping 2006 will be a good actionier year, so stay tuned and keep an eye out for us at clubs, bars and beauty salons around the UK… Go on, treat yourself.
December 28th
We’ll soon be recording some of our tracks with Chris from Remedy Recs. We hope to have some available here, or on the Myspace page at some point in the next month or so.
